Today, a hotel staff rang our flat, handed me two 3D glasses, and said something about the solar eclipse tomorrow. Then I realized, I totally forgot about the TOTAL Solar Eclipse happening here in Turkey tomorrow, March 29!
I really can't remember the last time I saw a total solar eclipse. I remember seeing some partial eclipse in Manila when I was young but not one where the sun is totally covered.
Tomorrow, apparently, at between 1054am-1057 -Universal Time ( 3 minutes) the new moon will directly be in between the earth and the sun. Istanbul is not directlyi n the path of the eclipse but hopefully, we will see a partial of the whole thing. If we were in Antalya tomorrow, we will be able to see the whole process but this will take a 2 hour plane ride from here.
You can find more info about the eclipse tomorrow on this website or here. I hope I get to take pictures if it is visible here!
Should you be in the following places tomorrow, prepare to witness a total solar eclipse.
Ghana
Togo
Benin
Nigeria
Niger
Chad
Libya
Egypt
Turkey
Georgia
the Caucasus
Caspian Sea
Kazakhstan
Russia
Mongolia
If not, you can still find some live webcasts on the net or simply watch the news tomorrow. I'm sure it will be on.
Happy Viewing!
I have seen one few years back in HK. Everyone were excited watching at the Waterfront in TST.
So I won't be witnessing the eclipse this time.

HELLO Pat! I got those cool and funky 3D glasses from the hotel. The sun was only 90 per cent covered here in Istanbul. X was at work and I called him up to remind him to look at it.
K They say the next eclipse here in turkey will be in 2062.I will be 84 years old by then! If I am still alive and living in turkey.
That's one of the reasons I was excited to see it. It's a once in a lifetime for me here in my current country.
Daniel lol! ginawa bang kanta! hahahahaha!
Owen It was awesome. At first I got confused with the right time( converting GMT to current time here) but then at around 130pm here, the sky suddely became dark. Like it was already late afternoon. I went out and the sun was visible. When I looked through my 3D glasses, the eclipse was quite clear.
Everyone was trying to take a photo. Including me. Unfortunately I do not have the right lens for it and ended up taking a bad picture of it.
Pobs Yeah. It was actually a tourist attraction here especially in the Antalkya region. They were preparing for it for the longest time!
I remember a time when there was a total eclipse in pinas and all I could think of was a bucket filled with water but I do not remember what that was for. Anyways I watched the discovery channel and they said that the sun is going to burst and will destroy our planet. Dont know when that will happen but I am sure I do not want to witness that.
i've seen the eclipse here in dubai as well.. unfortunately, it was cloudy... no shots taken..huhuhu..
i always wish to witness a total solar eclipse! It happens just once in a lifetime!
